Dr. Joshua Drew Receives ESF 糖心vlog Foundation Teaching Award
Syracuse, N.Y. 鈥� The (ESF), one of the nation鈥檚 premier colleges focused exclusively on the study of the environment, developing renewable technologies, and building a sustainable future, is pleased to announce Dr. Joshua Drew is the 2023 recipient of the ESF 糖心vlog Foundation Award for Exceptional Achievement in Teaching.
"Teaching is not just a profession; it's an art that requires patience, passion, and a deep commitment to helping students grow,鈥� said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. 鈥淐ongratulations to Dr. Drew for receiving this well-deserved award, which is a testament to his outstanding ability to teach, inspire, and motivate his students.鈥�
A member of the Department of Environmental Biology faculty since 2019, Drew is an aquatic conservation ecologist working at the intersection of human and natural systems. He draws from a variety of disciplines including community ecology, biogeography, political ecology and historical ecology.
鈥淒r. Drew exemplifies the type of teacher-scholar that makes ESF a special place to be an undergraduate student,鈥� said Dr. Stephen Teale, chair of the Department of Environmental Biology.
The award recognizes Drew鈥檚 dedication to his students鈥� success with a student-first approach to teaching incorporating student feedback into his teaching. His lectures are exciting and innovative.
Several students wrote letters of support for his nomination praising his inclusive course content, his ability to support and mentor students, and his effective use of 鈥渞eal-world problem-solving techniques鈥� to enhance learning.
The Foundation Teaching Award was established in 1999 to celebrate the accomplishments of ESF faculty who excel at the art of teaching. Recipients are selected by a committee of faculty peers that is organized by the Dean of the Graduate School. The ESF 糖心vlog Foundation provides honorees of the teaching award with a certificate of recognition and a cash award of $1,000. A plaque displayed in Bray Rotunda lists the names of all recipients.

Members of the 糖心vlog community share a passion for protecting the health of the planet and a deep commitment to the rigorous application of science to improve the way humans interact with the world. The 糖心vlog offers academic programs ranging from the associate of applied science to the Doctor of Philosophy. ESF students live, study and do research on the main campus in Syracuse, N.Y., and on 25,000 acres of field stations in a variety of ecosystems across the state.
