MEETINGS December 8, 2021 Introductory meeting with Provost Mukasa, Provost Newman, John Bartow & LBR - discussion was to inform of our DEI committee is a Standing Committee. TBD - A invite will be extended at a future full DEI committee meeting. Chair Fisher, Trustee Bartow and self met on February 27, 2022 for a planning and "on the same page" conversation We have not scheduled a next meeting. However we have an in person anticipated April 14 on the calendar Propose we can invite the FULL DEI committee for an introduction to the board. Past meeting discussions (input produced by committee members) 2/2/2022 Members of the DEI Standing Committee met to discuss the following: To conceptualize the mission of the DEI Committee Follow SUNY Chancellors 25 point DEI To request a binder compiled with policies and resources To identify expected outcomes To develop action items To develop a matrix of recommendations Discussed Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr.s Project Inclusion Effort as a model to utilize Discussed the development of a campus wide DEI Best Practices Toolbox accessible to all departments Acknowledged and reiterated that the DEI Standing Committees role is to support Dr. Carter and her department and is not tasked to perform the duties and responsibilities of ESF employees. Requested specific documents from Dr. Carter to be disseminated to Board members. RECOMMENDATION - In general, our committee should meet every other month and receive progress reports from each established DEI committee, i.e.: student affairs, admissions, financial aid, faculty recruitment, grants/fund development, etc. recommend that this could come from Dr. Carter. 1. Any recommendations our committee makes should be for programs that will last at least 5 years and funded as required. 2. ESF should develop a relationship with HBCU's for graduate study. This should be a scholarship program for minority students recommended by their undergraduate school. It should be privately funded so that the donor can direct that the scholarships be for minority students. Hopefully this would avoid any legal concerns. This could also include summer studies Suggest we select a few HBCU'S campus's to do a site visit's 3. ESF should develop a supportive relationship with local youth groups interested in environmental concerns, such as Earth Corp. If necessary ESF can start such a group with the SCSD. Why? Because of the high degree of respiratory illnesses suffered by inner city residents due to a lack of greenery, substandard housing, and air quality. This will get worse while I81 is rehabbed. Provide information concerning how households can keep interior aid cleaner. 4. Early identification of students enrolled in NYS community colleges who are majoring in areas that easily support transferring to ESF.
